Ningbo-born javelin thrower Yan Ziyi continued her strong season with victory at the Wanda Diamond League Oslo on June 11.
Yan secured the women's javelin title with an opening throw of 67.11 meters, finishing a remarkable 5.19 meters ahead of runner-up Sigrid Borge of Norway. She made a second attempt, recording 64.81 meters, before ending her competition early because of cold and windy conditions at the seaside venue.
The winning throw further demonstrated Yan's consistency at the elite level. Her 67.11-meter effort ranks as the second-best result in the world this season. The top mark also belongs to Yan, who made headlines at the Diamond League Xiamen in May with a throw of 71.74 meters.
That performance broke the Asian record, the world under-20 record and the Diamond League record, establishing the 18-year-old as one of the sport's most promising young athletes.
According to coach Lu Xiurong, the team's target in Oslo was a throw of 67 meters, a mark Yan surpassed with her opening attempt. Lu praised her ability to adapt after arriving in Europe earlier this month for a series of international competitions.
Yan is scheduled to compete next at the Diamond League meeting in Paris on June 28 before continuing her European campaign in Monaco in July.
