Robotic Dogs Become the Latest Tech Trend in Ningbo

Owning a robotic dog is becoming a new tech trend in Ningbo.

As bionic robots make the leap from industrial applications to the consumer market, consumer-grade robotic dogs are now appearing in retail stores. At Ningbo Jingdong Mall, the first-floor electronics section is drawing crowds with its display of WEILAN Alpha robotic dogs, especially among younger consumers. Staff members were demonstrating the product to shoppers, including Mr. Lu and his son.

"Simply calling the robot dog's name wakes it up. It can do push-ups, dance, and shake your hand upon command," said Qin Jiaming, digital department manager at Ningbo Jingdong Mall. "Equipped with advanced AI technology, the robotic dog can perceive its surroundings, process information, and recognize commands. It can also recommend restaurants and plan trips according to your preferences, and perform tasks like night patrols, companion running, and graphical programming."

During this year's Spring Festival, as humanoid and quadruped robots gained popularity, Mr. Lin, a resident of Haishu District, purchased the Go2, a consumer-grade robotic dog from Unitree Robotics.

Not long after its arrival, the Go2 quickly became a beloved "new member" of Mr. Lin's family.

"With some modifications, there are many ways to use it," he said. "Now, when I go grocery shopping, I don't have to carry the bags myself."

According to Unitree Robotics, the Go2 features 4D lidar technology, allowing it to accurately detect and avoid obstacles. This enables the robot to move smoothly across complex terrain and navigate crowded environments.

A recent industry report predicts that by 2031, domestic sales of robotic dogs could reach 394,800 units.
