Following the inscription of China’s Spring Festival as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2024, Chinese New Year has officially become a global cultural celebration. To mark the occasion, the Ningbo Municipal Education Bureau and Ningbo Evening News Tangyuan International Communication Center are jointly launching the “Staycation for Tradition” event.

Starting January 18, the initiative invites over a thousand international students and teachers staying in Ningbo during the winter break to experience the joy of Chinese New Year. It will also be a prime opportunity for Ningbo to showcase its unique cultural heritage to the world. The program features 12 thoughtfully curated itineraries offering hands-on experiences of Ningbo’s intangible cultural heritage. Participants are encouraged to share their adventures on RedNote and other social media platforms using the hashtags #staycation #NewYearinNingbo and

From January 18 to January 26, participants can engage in these activities across Ningbo’s districts. They can enjoy a traditional folk parade at Yongjiang Shuiyun Park in the High-Tech Zone, admire lantern displays at Chenghuangmiao’s Kaimingfang and try weaving straw mats at Maoxin Village in Haishu District. In Yinzhou District, they can watch a Ningbo Opera performance and try pottery at the Ningbo Opera Museum, and experience bamboo weaving and ceramic repair at the Mingzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Street. In Jiangbei District, Cicheng Ancient Town offers the opportunity to make rice cakes. A visit to Zhenhai District will allow them to try their skills at paper-cutting and crafting tiger-head shoes at Zhaobaoshan. In Fenghua District, they can learn to make flaky pastries in Xikou Scenic Area. In Cixi City, they can experience celadon ceramics at Shanglin Porcelain Garden. Yuyao City offers a traditional lantern performance at the Lubu Dazhang Hall. In Xiangshan County, a lively market event awaits in Sizhoutou Town. In Ninghai County, they can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of an intangible cultural heritage carnival at Chenghuang Temple.

This unique initiative is more than just a celebration—it’s an opportunity to experience the essence of Chinese New Year by immersing yourself in its harmonious and festive atmosphere!
